Fountain at Fennpfuhl

Paul-Junius-Straße 50
10369 Berlin

The Fennpfuhl is a still water body only 1.5 meters deep with no inlets or outlets. In order to compensate for evaporation, prevent siltation and purify the water, a one-kilometre-long ring pipeline with pumps, pressure tanks and groundwater extraction points was laid along the shore back in the 1970s. The groundwater is mixed with the lake water and the latter is kept at a constant level.

In winter, the Fennpfuhl was regularly used as an ice skating rink. Between 1925 and 1953 there was an official ice rink 250 meters long on the winter lake.

Since 1986, a fountain system has been installed in the southern basin, which contributes significantly to the aeration and purification of the water.
