Residential complex of minimum level of subsistence

The architect Adolf Rading (1888-1957) built the residential complex in Irenenstraße, Metastraße and Fridastraße between 1930 and 1933 for the minimum level of subsistence with 190 unemployed people. They were built on behalf of the Gemeinnützige Baugesellschaft "Berlin-Ost" (non-profit building society) as a job creation measure by unemployed construction workers.
The angular and horseshoe-shaped brickwork buildings with a green inner courtyard have a plain light brown plaster facade. The small flats are reduced to a minimum: Access via the portico system reduces the number of staircases and also serves as ventilation for the kitchenette and bathroom cell.
