Public city park of Lichtenberg
10367 Berlin
In 1907, the community of Lichtenberg acquired the green space, previously used as a manor park, which originated from a private park of General Wichard von Möllendorff (1724-1816) and was planted with rare wood.
In the same year, Lichtenberg received the right to declare itself a district-free city. The driving force was Mayor Oskar Ziethen (1858-1932), who had initiated this development since 1896. The public city park, which was built by 1910, was a strengthening element of Berlin's community aspiring to city status. Attached to it, the new town hall was built in neo-Gothic clinker brick style. After the First World War until today, the park has been redesigned and extended several times as a public recreational space.
