Terraces at Lake Orankesee

First the ice-age water channel is useful as a water reservoir for the Löwenbrauerei and in 1929 it becomes an open-air bath. The theatre director Wilhelm "Heiden"-Heinrich, who was facing ruin with his theatre in Weißensee, recognised his opportunity and opened a restaurant with the bath. Sand from the excavation of the underground to Friedrichsfelde fills the 300-metre-long beach. Even if it is not Baltic Sea sand, as advertised, the bath enjoys great popularity. Up to 25,000 people are said to have enjoyed themselves in the water on summer days. On the terraces at Lake Orankesee, visitors cavort on dance evenings. There is room for 5,000 people who enjoy their free time in the beer pub or at concerts that innkeeper "Heiden"-Heinrich now organises here instead of in the Weißensee municipal theatre.
