Margarete Steffin

Geusenstraße 12
10317 Berlin

The versatile artistic and linguistically gifted young woman came from the simplest of backgrounds, was politically committed to the left, belonged to the workers' sports club Fichte and performed on stages. After meeting Brecht, she collaborated on his works and was his lover. She went into exile with Brecht and his family in several countries. A worsening of her long-standing illness prevented her from traveling to the United States. The plaque was placed at the house where she was born, whose original address was Mozartstraße 3.
