In the 18th century, the commercial nursery owner Gustav Adolph Schultz ran an ornamental nursery with greenhouses on part of the area of the park, which today covers 9.5 hectares. On the neighboring property, Louis Dittmar produced natural ice blocks from the winter ice of the Fennpfuhl in his company "Eiswerke Lichtenberg", which were delivered to breweries. With the spread of electric refrigerators, natural ice production was discontinued and in 1905 the ornamental nursery gave way to a timber business, which used large parts of today's park for storing and processing wood.
